TUTORIAL (S805): Update the MXQ S805 box to Android 5.1 Lollipop

This is the second of our previous tutorials that we are adding to the new website.

In this video guide Matthew you will show you how to update an MXQ box, that is using the Amlogic S805 quad-core CPU, to Android 5.1 ‘Lollipop’. Previously this seemed impossible but we stumbled upon a custom ROM over at the Freaktab forums made by a developer known as Abdul.

This ROM was originally created to run on a device known as the ‘K1’ (also using an S805 CPU and sporting similar specs as the MXQ), so after deciding to test this out we were delighted to find that this installed and booted without issue on our MXQ boxes, this wasn’t without its caveats however, we found that this ROM seems to have disabled two of the CPU cores so we were effectively running on only 2 cores, also on some devices the WiFi drivers for some chipsets were not present.

This was a great development meaning that many people using these types of boxes can now be used to install the latest versions of the Kodi media centre, something previously not thought possible.

This is also reported by some users to be working on the MK808B+ S805 TV stick. Although we have not tested it.
